This Tupac hologram is ridiculous.

THE CALLS

1. Marissa Dockery

The Last Time We Spoke: 2006. Quite awhile. Marissa was my voice coach when I was preparing to record the final Perfuma album.

When I Called Today: Marissa answered and said “I was just looking at my phone wondering if it was really you calling, how are you!?” We did the usual chit chat thing for a few minutes, because she had to run, but I told her that I wanted to say to her quickly, “thank you for everything you taught me”. Thanks to Marissa I went from an awful singer, to… i dunno, a better one. haha. But the techniques she taught me years ago are still what i use to this day to rehearse and I cannot thank her enough for giving me to tools to pursue my dream.

The Verdict: One of the things I’ve liked about doing this blog has been getting the opportunity to tell people things that I just haven’t gotten around to. I’ve owed Marissa thanks for a LONG time.

2. Jamie Dominguez

Left Voicemail

3. Ryan Dominguez

The Last Time We Spoke: In late 2010 at the Meatlocker.

When I Called Today: Ryan and I chatted immediately about the usual catching up stuff. He informed me that he is a kindergarten teacher now, which I was pretty psyched to hear. Ryan is also the music director at his church, which is a neat job. From here, Ryan and I had a lengthy discussion about SideCho records, which was the home of Ryan’s old band, Tokyo Rose, and the former home of Those Mockingbirds. I’m not going to drag anyone thru the mud here because its not worth it, but long story short, I explained in detail why i haven’t spoken to the label owner in well over a year.

The Verdict: Nice to catch up with Ryan. Really solid guy.
